Paulo Figari
Yet another bizarre finish as Florida St. edges Miami after a disastrous first half and coming back strong in typical Seminole fashion. Winston was erratic throughout but showed poise and leadership in crunch time and led his team to victory with the help of Jalen Ramsey and Dalvin Cook.
Rashad Greene WR Florida St.
- Early on it is apparent that Rashad struggle fighting press coverage and often resorts to an inside swim move.
- He is often put off the line of scrimmage to get a clean release
- Ran a very smooth inside stick route and made a tough grab in traffic.
- Shows wiggle and speed on crosser and quickly turn up field for extra yardage.
- He is an incredibly savvy and smooth route runner especially vs. man coverage.
- At the end of the half he is unable to high point the football which leads to an interception.
- Adequate top speed and shows to have multiple gears.
- Runs a variety of different routes with great precision and timing.
- Had a few miscues on curl routes, failing to link up with Jameis.
- He does a nice job of sinking his hips at the top of his break
- Phenomenal concentration and shows to have in extra gear in space.
- Only difficulty came was separating vs length in press coverage.
Wrap: As a whole it was a solid game for Rashad despite not blowing up the stat sheet. He shows plenty of NFL quality traits and proves to be reliable in tough moments. When matching up with Ladarius Gunter and Artie Burns he struggled getting off the line of scrimmage but was able to find ways to separate once downfield.
Ronald Darby CB Florida St.
- First play of the game he had a busted coverage; failing to communicate he bit on an outside stutter and gave up inside positioning, luckily for him it was incomplete.
- Gives up critical touchdown to Phillip Dorsett, showing his hand way too early by rotating his hips for outside leverage. Dorsett read it and ran an inside post for the touchdown.
- Throughout the game he shows to be a catch tackler as he elects to absorb the contact from the ball carrier rather than initiating.
- Struggles shedding blocks in the run game
- Another busted coverage early as he expected help over the top and stayed in the flat in man coverage.
- Shows to have a balanced backpedal by sinking his hips.
- Does a nice job mirroring crossers and posts while in press coverage.
- He is rather quick to switch his hips which can tip off receivers to run a certain route.
- He is a physical press corner who reads hips well.
Wrap: Darby struggled mightily early on but just like the rest of the team he was able to bounce back in the second half with a near dominant performance. Darby has good feet and fluidity to match but he tends to show his hand early in off coverage concepts. He doesn’t have top level speed but his sticky and plays the boundary really well.
Phillip Dorsett WR Miami
- He quickly shows his highly touted straight line speed
- Lines up on the boundary and in the slot.
- Beat Ronald Darby on an inside post route by selling it with a nice head fake.
- He is a willing blocker and shows decent ability
- Adequate vision after the catch in space.
- Dropped an outside post that would have been a touchdown. He high pointed well but the ball clung off his hands
- He is very sudden at the top of his breaks
- Lacks upper body strength to block on the interior of the field
- Underdeveloped route tree. Only running crossers, posts, and Go’s.
- A one-cut and one-speed type receiver. Lacks a second or third gear.
- Improved hands even in traffic.
- Lacks elite lateral quickness for a guy with his speed.
Wrap: Dorsett got off to a great start beating Darby on numerous occasions but just like the rest of the Hurricanes he almost disappeared in the second half (due to the run game). His straight line speed and improved hands will intrigue many head coaches and GMs as he is simply a nightmare to face if there is no help over the top. If Dorsett can develop his route tree he can be a solid 3rd option for any NFL team.
Ladarius Gunter CB Miami
- Early on pass break up on critical third down as he mirrored O’Leary on a crosser to the sideline.
- He shows to be a bit top heavy in his backpedal which can lead to slowly retreating out of his breaks.
- Does a nice job matching speed on crossers and digs
- Boundary Corner with Safety traits
- Let Rudolph slip in behind on a comeback , wasn’t able to read eyes of QB and gave up big reception.
- Sticky man corner with length and press coverage ability.
- Mostly played off coverage in most of their zone concepts, awareness and instincts need improvement.
- Jams well off press coverage and rarely gives up inside positioning.
- Patient behind the line of scrimmage and is asked to play a lot of bump n run.
- Pad level rises too high and misses a lot of tackles.
- Struggles moving laterally.
Wrap: Nothing spectacular from the lengthy corner but his length and press coverage ability will intrigue many coaches and GMs. His zone coverage awareness and instincts aren’t elite and he is slow to transition out of his backpedal. Didn’t let up any big plays and didn’t make any big plays himself. Overall a quiet night for Ladarius Gunter.
